Pre-Surgery Instructions for Outpatient Dermatology Surgery
At Gemini Dermatology, we want to ensure that you are well-prepared for your upcoming outpatient dermatology surgery. Please follow these guidelines to help ensure a smooth and successful procedure.
DO:
1. Arrive 15-30 minutes early: Plan to arrive 15-30 minutes before your scheduled surgery time to complete any necessary paperwork.
2. Eat a light meal: You may eat a light meal before your procedure, but avoid heavy or greasy foods.
3. Take medications as usual: Continue taking your prescribed medications as usual, unless instructed otherwise by your Gemini Dermatology provider.
4. Wear comfortable clothing: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to ensure easy access to the treatment area.
5. Bring a driver (optional): While anesthesia is not required, you may still want to bring a driver to escort you home after the procedure.
DON'T:
1. Don't worry: Our experienced team will guide you through the procedure and answer any questions you may have.
2. Don't wear makeup: Avoid wearing makeup, especially in the treatment area, to ensure a smooth and safe procedure.
3. Don't wear jewelry: Avoid wearing jewelry, including watches and piercings, to ensure a smooth and safe procedure.
4. Don't smoke: Avoid smoking for at least 24 hours before your surgery, as smoking can increase the risk of complications.
5. Discontinue non-essential agents: For 5 days prior to your scheduled procedure, please discontinue all non-essential (unprescribed) agents, including:
- NSAIDs (e.g. ibuprofen/Advil/Motrin, naproxen/Aleve/Naprosyn, diclofenac/Voltaren, celecoxib/Celebrex, meloxicam/Mobic, indomethacin/Indocin, ketoprofen/Orudis)
- Garlic supplements
- Fish oil supplements
